Describe your style in three words or less:

Timeless, elevated, refined.

What have been the three biggest influences on your aesthetic in your life:

My aesthetic is a fusion of influences from my Southern roots, my experience living and working at an interior design firm in California, and my current life in Chicago. The comforting charm of the South, the laid-back and airy vibe of the West Coast, and the dynamic energy of the big city have all shaped my aesthetic.

How did you start your company, and/or what is your favorite thing about what you do:

As a business major specializing in entrepreneurship along with my passion for textiles and colors, it formed the perfect recipe for opening up my own firm, Alissa Johnson Interiors. Before taking this leap, my professional path began on the accounting and operations side of design, a role that I transitioned into encompassing both design and operations. I served as the Chief Operating Officer at RDID, which laid a solid foundation and smooth transition into opening up my own firm.

What does your home say about you:

My home reflects my Southern upbringing, where hospitality was key and interiors were designed with layers of textures and elements to create warmth and coziness. I aimed to capture that Southern charm in my own space by using rich textures, a mix of refined yet comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful details to create a welcoming environment.

Where do you find inspiration:

Burnout can be real in the interior design field from constantly managing trades on site to championing projects through completion while simultaneously needing to be creative at all times. I believe that learning is a never-ending process and I make it a point to constantly consume interior design content, be it through coffee table books, or digital platforms like Instagram as well as get inspiration from visiting hotels and restaurants. These avenues not only help me stay creative and inspired but also keep me updated with the latest trends and provide a fresh perspective on design concepts.

Who are your style icons:

Jordanna Sharp and Jessie Schuster.

Best interior advice you ever received:

"Embrace the journey, not just the destination." This simple yet profound wisdom has had a significant impact on my life. It has taught me to find joy and value in the process of achieving my goals. The interior design process, like any journey, is about more than just the final outcome—it's about the experiences, challenges, and growth that occur along the way. By appreciating each step, I've learned to be more patient, resilient, and mindful. This perspective has enriched my experiences and made me more grateful for the lessons learned and the growth achieved throughout my journey.

Most prized possession and why:

The chair in the corner of my living room is my most treasured decor item. Its unique design makes it a standout piece that catches everyone's eye. While people often assume it’s just for show, it holds a special place in my daily routine. I genuinely love using it for reading, sinking into its comfort with a good book in hand. This chair represents more than just a stylish addition to my home; it symbolizes relaxation and peace for me.

Your interiors motto:

“Dedicated to making timeless and sophisticated interiors a part of everyday living.”

Your life motto:

"Create with intention, live with passion." or "Love deeply, forgive generously, and live authentically."

Advice for someone looking to define their own interior style:

Visit different spaces, browse design magazines, and explore online platforms like Pinterest and Instagram. Pay attention to what catches your eye and resonates with you. Your style may change over time, and that's okay. Be open to evolving your aesthetic as you discover new influences and preferences.
