Deep Dive: De Gournay And Paris Deco Off
De Gournay debuted its new wall covering collection at Paris Deco Off last month – and all we can say is it’s la crème de la crème.
Known as “the fashion week of interior design,” Paris Deco Off invites surveyors to glimpse into the newest trends in fabric and wallcoverings. De Gournay’s twin salons in the Rues des Saints-Pères apartment are complete with decor from Christian Schumacher, Pierre Frey, Dedar, and Beardmore Hardware - a.k.a. any design-lovers paradise. De Gournay’s couture-like craftsmanship introduces three-dimensional wall coverings that achieve an avant-garde technique while simultaneously paying tribute to its antique inspiration.
Inspired by Edo period artist, Ito Jakuchu, the ‘Amami Waves’ motif embodies the Amami Islands’ coral reefs and transparent waves. The motif wraps the salon in a sea of blue, facilitated by the aquatic landscape’s seafoam blue and metallic silver tones. Hand embroidered on pale blue moiré silk, de Gournay captures the essence of haute couture.
Pulling from 1930’s artist Paul Etienne Sain’s paintings , the twin salon transports its visitors to a completely different world. Hand-embroidered on wool sateen, the wall covering motif ‘Etienne’ provides a juxtaposition of gold, black, and white thread, creating a captivating visual contrast. The treetop canopies are complete with a troupe of Diana monkeys, evoking a playful and energetic feel.
De Gournay’s new collection elicits a certain je ne sais quoi and needless to say we’re obsessed!
