THE ESSENTIAL FALL SHOPPING GUIDE

The AOI team just took a trip to Dutchess County to visit an old project in Pine Plains. A crisp in the air had them fast-forwarding to fall days: soup on the stovetop, apples ready for pie, and a cozy seat next to the fireplace with a good book. We’re leaning into dark neutrals this fall: brown, red, and navy with an unexpected pattern in the mix—the “anchovy in the room,” as FL friend Mieke ten Have calls it. Our fall essentials take us from the living room to the kitchen; that's what a promising fall day looks like to us.

We often associate florals with spring, although on the right piece of furniture or pillow, they can add a sense of warmth to a space in the colder months. This linen floral from Soane would feel at home on a sofa and as an accent pillow.

When the heat kicks on for the first time, there is no better feeling than a plush rug under your feet. Nordic Knots makes high-quality, low-pile rugs available in solid colors (that complement existing furniture well) and unique prints.

At Fenimore Lane, we’re often in the kitchen – and we’ve learned a few things over the years, from the most realistic kitchen layout to the perfect menu for an impromptu dinner party. A Le Creuset Dutch Oven is always on our essential kitchen list.

One of the few positives of daylight savings is that candles become a centerpiece for a tabletop. Stick Candles, based in Highlands, North Carolina, handmakes pillar candles cast from wood. They’re detailed, intriguing, and a conversation starter.

With every baking project or dinner party comes a hefty set of dishes. Hawkins New York makes some of our most-used dish towels. They look great on the counter and wash (and dry!) even better. Plus, they make a great host gift (that they’ll actually use.)

One of the highlights of the change of season is hosting inside again. Having a well-set table creates an environment ripe for conversation. Crafted in Italy and sourced by Brooklyn-based shop Salter House, this placemat adds a pop of red to your tabletop in a subtle, yet fun, way.

A good host knows how to make a good martini; they also know that having the correct glassware adds to the experience. A modern, yet classic, take on the classic Martini glass from R+D.LAB – “timeless elegance”.

Donni has quickly claimed its place at the top of our fall list. The LA-based brand has mastered laid-back, well-made staples, from silk pants to everyday t-shirts. For a quiet night at home, their silk pants would pair well with a candlelit glass of wine and a Nora Ephron movie.

As we head into fall, the options at the local flower stand begin to dwindle, our hydrangeas outside turn from a bright white to brown, and until the tulips and daffodils, we’re stuck waiting with a small selection. While we can’t argue with a bouquet of dried hydrangeas (in the right room!), having a vase to take you through the seasons is essential. Serena and Lily’s porcelain vase is a perfect addition to the farmhouse feeling we crave for fall.

The sun has set, we’re cozied up on the sofa with a good tv show (Team FL is loving ‘Nobody Wants This’) and Ariels roast chicken in the oven. Now this is a perfect fall night at home. A Shoppe herringbone throw blanket continues to be an essential for any living room.
