An Insider’s Guide to Amagansett
In partnership with Stay Marquis
Historically an artist's enclave and a farmer’s and fisher’s village, Amagansett’s laid-back vibes translate throughout its farm stand-dotted terrain. Despite the seasonal influx of celebrities, Amagansett is not one of the Hamptons towns to “see and be seen” – this hamlet skews luxe and low-key, right down to the effortlessly chic boutiques in the center of town.
With historic shingled homes more inland, and modern estates on the ocean, the architectural styles abound in Amagansett – yet all are uniquely beautiful. Start your day with yoga on the town green, head to Hampton Chutney for lunch or Jack’s Stir Brew for a coffee, cook your own dinner from the local bounty at the farmer’s markets, and then head on over to a nighttime bonfire at Atlantic Beach or Indian Wells Beach (you’ll need beach passes!) or some live music at Stephen Talkhouse to cap the evening. Below, a round-up of our favorite spots in Amagansett.

Where to Eat
Lunch Lobster Roll: The iconic lobster roll shack has been a staple in Amagansett for over 50 years.
Il Buco al Mare: From the gorgeously prepared Italian fare at the Il Buco restaurant group, comes Il Buco al Mare, focused on locally sourced ingredients for fresh, seasonally minded dishes.
Rosie’s: A fresh spin on traditional Hamptons style, with chef-curated menus highlighting the season’s bounty. Amagansett restaurants take their local produce seriously!
La Fondita: The quick-serve tacos at casual eatery La Fondita are not to be missed.
Cavaniola's Cheese and Gourmet: A favorite of Hamptons patron saint Ina Garten, this cheese shop (also in Sag Harbor) is more than just brie and cheddar. A gorgeous selection of cheese, cured meats, and crackers from local purveyors is perfect to create a picnic lunch for the beach.
Jack’s Stir Brew: The best coffee shop in town.
Christian’s by Wolffer Estate: A delicious take on simple, beautifully cooked local produce by the expert team at Wolffer Estate (also a must-visit!)
Hampton Chutney Co.: While technically in East Hampton, the proximity to the hamlet of Amagansett (within the larger town of East Hampton) earns Hampton Chutney Co. a spot on the list. Don’t miss the crispy dosas!
Where to SHOP
Il Buco Vita: From the experts of Italian chic at Il Buco, Il Buco Vita offers up stunning homeware (think: splattered terracotta plates and mugs; hand-stitched linen napkins).
Ulla Johnson: The cool-girl wardrobe, boiled down to one beautiful brand.
Jenni Kayne: The spokeswoman for laid back California luxe – cashmere fisherman sweaters and oil rubbed leather strappy sandals abound.
Clare V.: Signature leather goods with that chic as can be stripe.
Sabah: Perfectly worn in Turkish leather loafers – in every color of the rainbow.
Pink Chicken: The cutest kids clothes on earth, inspired the block prints of traditional Indian textiles.
FARM STANDS AND FISH MARKETS
Amber Waves Farm: An impressive operation founded in 2009 by Amanda Merrow and Katie Baldwin, Amber Waves Farm offers up a beautiful assortment of local produce and pastries (they re-introduced wheat to the East End!) If you’re traveling with littles in tow, they have a great kids program that teaches children about farming. If you’re there for the summer, come weekly for the CSA; if you’re in town for a week or a weekend, pick up what’s in season, and don’t forget to check out Amber Waves Café for food that’s as sustainable and local as it gets.
Balsam Farms: A Nancy Meyers movie dream, Balsam Farms has it all, from fresh herbs and cheese to farm-grown flowers and every tomato variety under the sun. Embrace your inner Something’s Gotta Give vibes and pick up some local corn for a fresh salad.
Stuart’s Fish Market: Exactly what you’d expect from the name, with the highest quality ingredients possible. Stuart’s will also cater a lobster dinner or clambake if you’re in the mood for hosting.
What To Do
Beaches: Atlantic Beach and Indian Wells (you’ll need a pass here) are the local spots for daytime surfing, lounging, and nighttime bonfires.
Stephen Talkhouse: Live music, good drinks, and you’ll inevitably run into someone you know. Always a good time.
Madoo Conservancy and LongHouse Gardens: Technically in Sagaponack and East Hampton, respectively, but worth a visit no matter where you’re staying for their beautiful, historical gardens.
RELAX
Mandala Yoga Center for Healing Arts: Yoga, meditation, aromatherapy and massage, to help you unwind and enjoy the beach.
The Salon & Day Spa at Amagansett Square: For a quick blowout (or massage!), they have you covered.
