The colder months are coming! Break down the layers you should have on your bed:

As the colder months approach, it's important to layer your bed for optimal warmth and comfort. Start with a high-quality fitted sheet, sateen for a silky smooth feel, flannel, or our new brushed cotton, for a soft, cozy base. In addition to cozy sheets, consider the following layers:

Medium to Ultra-Weight Comforters: A down or down-alt comforter provides the primary source of warmth. Medium to ultra-weight options are designed to offer substantial insulation, trapping heat effectively while still being breathable. This ensures you stay cozy even on the coldest nights.

Blankets and Throws: These add additional layers of warmth and can be adjusted based on your comfort level. A thick blanket or a wool throw can provide extra insulation and warmth when needed, and they are easy to add or remove as temperatures fluctuate.

Mattress Pad or Toppers: A wool or down mattress pad offers an extra layer of insulation between you and the mattress. It helps retain body heat and provides an additional layer of comfort, making your bed feel warmer and more inviting.

What bedding topper is best for the colder months, and why:

A wool mattress pad is the perfect option for winter because wool has natural insulating properties that help regulate body temperature. Wool fibers trap heat, providing warmth without causing overheating. Additionally, wool is moisture-wicking, which means it can absorb and release moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable throughout the night. Its breathability also helps prevent the buildup of heat, making it ideal for cold winter nights. Wool is also naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making it a healthy, cozy choice for a restful winter sleep.

What kind of sheets should you use in the winter:

For winter, we recommend our Sateen and Flannel or Brushed Cotton sheeting collections. Flannel offers a luxurious, velvet-like softness and opulent warmth with its new, softer 5 oz. fabric. If you prefer something warm but not too heavy, Brushed Cotton is perfect—it’s soft and cozy without overheating, ideal for those who sleep hot even in cooler months. If you prefer to have a silky smooth look, then Sateen is for you.

What’s the best way to make a bed if you’re a colder sleeper during the fall and winter:

Layering is key to staying warm and cozy. Start with a fitted sheet made from flannel or brushed cotton, which provides a soft, warm base. Next, add a wool or down mattress pad to create an insulating layer that helps retain heat.

For your top layers, go with a medium to heavy-weight down or down-alternative comforter. This will keep you warm without feeling too bulky. If you need extra warmth, add a thick blanket or a quilt on top. Wool blankets are especially great for colder sleepers because they naturally trap heat while remaining breathable.

Finally, consider adding a few finishing touches like a cozy throw blanket at the foot of the bed, which you can pull up for extra warmth. You can also switch to warmer pillows, like those filled with down or memory foam, which provide better insulation and help maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the night.

By layering these elements, you’ll create a warm and inviting bed that keeps you comfortable no matter how cold it gets outside.

What is your favorite bedding to use from The Company Store during the winter:

Our legends Hotel Premium Supima Wrinkle-Free Sateen – I love the weight of it, slightly thicker than our percale but is still breathable. The wrinkle free is a real plus! While I still iron my sheets, the wrinkle free properties keep it looking nice after a few night in the bed.

For the really cold nights, I love our new brushed cotton!

What is your favorite tip(s) when it comes to making beds in the winter:

When it comes to making beds in the winter, my favorite tip is all about creating cozy layers. Think of your bed as a sanctuary from the cold, and layer it up to make it as inviting as possible.

First, start with a good-quality flannel sheet set. Flannel sheets are soft, warm, and perfect for the chilly months. Next, add a plush comforter or duvet. I recommend one with a high fill power for maximum warmth without the weight.

On top of that, layer a cozy throw blanket or two. Not only do these add an extra layer of warmth, but they also bring texture and style to your bed. Choose materials like fleece, wool, or even a chunky knit for that ultimate snug feel.

Lastly, don’t forget about your pillows and cushions. Add a few extra decorative pillows in different fabrics and textures to provide additional comfort and support.
