Talk Shop: Annabelle Moehlmann // Land of Belle
ABOUT ANNABELLE
Annabelle Moehlmann, the sparkling founder of artisan homeware shop Land of Belle, is one of the chicest people we know. Her amazing taste—classic yet contemporary, with heaps of global influence—is seen in the range of beautiful items on her site. Annabelle was inspired to start Land of Belle after going through the wedding registry process, when she realized there was not a destination where she could register for—or even shop—her favorite home accessories, many of which were discovered on travels.
Prior to starting Land of Belle, Annabelle worked in the design world in different capacities before leading brand partnerships and business development at Indagare, a luxury travel company. With LOB, she set out to showcase the world’s leading boutique home accessories brands and artisans with others who share her passion for beautiful craftsmanship, love of unique pieces, and endless wanderlust. It is always our go-to for housewares and accessories, and we’re so excited that she will start to offer beautiful women’s clothing and items for baby in the coming months!
Annabelle is a new mommy to gorgeous baby girl Clementine, and loves spending time with her husband Maxi and dachshund, Winnie. A dear friend of Ariel’s, we were so excited to sit down with Annabelle to learn more about her favorite places to travel, best design advice, and more.
Describe your style in three words or less:
Glamorous, timeless, vibrant.
What have been the three biggest influences on your aesthetic in your life:
Travel, my mother, and film.
How did you start your company, and what is your favorite thing about what you do: When I created my own bridal registry, I realized there was a hole in the home market for a curated shopping experience that featured unique artisans and brands so I set out to create that shopping destination for others.
I love working with our talented brand partners to create cohesive collections that add beauty and happiness to the homes of our wonderful customers. There's nothing that makes me happier than a very happy customer and we feel so grateful for the support and love from our loyal followers over the years.
Do you have a mentor in your career, and if so, how have they helped to shape your trajectory:
I have learned valuable lessons from everyone I've worked for, but wouldn't say I have a mentor. I wish!
What does your home say about you:
I am drawn to old world charm, love to travel, and might be slightly addicted to wallpaper.
Where do you find inspiration:
Nature, my mother-in-law and mother's homes, and the hotels, palaces and museums I visit on my travels.
Who are your style icons:
Lady Catherine Crowley, Marge Sherwood, Sabrina Fairchild, and Cecilia Tallis.
What are your key ingredients for entertaining:
Good music, good lighting, good company, and good cocktails in gorgeous glassware!
Do you collect anything:
Photography, and unsurprisingly, plates and glassware.
Favorite Instagram accounts to follow for inspiration:
@dascoli, @staleywisegallery, @bygloriagonzalez
What are you working on right now:
Soaking up every minute with our baby girl, Clementine. And of course, growing the Land of Belle collection.
Wardrobe staples:
High waisted, wide legged pant suits, white t-shirts by The Great, D'Ascoli kaftans, Eres bathing suits, Rebecca de Ravenel earrings, slip dresses from Organic by John Patrick and Prada cardigans.
Best career advice you ever received:
Focus on your strong suits and outsource the rest!
Types of home purchases you invest in, and save on:
Invest in art, lamps, and good furniture. Save on rugs (especially if you have a naughty pet like we do) and light and bathroom fixtures—there are totally decent ones from RH and Pottery Barn these days.
Your greatest extravagance:
Baby clothes and jewelry!
Favorite places to shop for home:
Land of Belle, 1stdibs, Walker Zabriskie and Casa Gusto in Palm Beach, Staley Wise Gallery, and antique stores in Stamford CT.
Most prized possession and why:
A diamond ring my husband surprised me with for our third anniversary, and the day before we found out we were expecting a baby! It's so beautiful, and makes me think of our love and life together.
Your interiors motto:
Keep it beautiful!
Your life motto:
It will all be okay in the end, and if it's not okay, it's not the end.
Advice for someone looking to define their own interior style:
Think about what makes you happy in life: The colors put you in a good mood, the patterns that inspire you, the places in the world you daydream about traveling to, the materials are you drawn to in others' homes, the eras that resonate with you in art and film, etc. Make a list and go from there. Create a mood board if you feel inspired and have the time. You'll be surprised that a clear aesthetic might appear before your eyes if you draw inspiration from the things that truly spark joy for you, which is after all, what your home should always do.
