ABOUT BECKY

Becky Boyle is one of our absolute favorite designers (and Insta friends!) With incredible taste and an impressive resume under her belt, Becky recently launched Becky Boyle Interiors, a full-service interior design firm with offices in Los Angeles, CA and Charlotte, NC. Prior to forming her eponymous firm, Becky worked in New York City as a designer until moving to Los Angeles, where she held the senior position at Mark D. Sikes Interiors for many years. She currently splits her time between California and North Carolina and loves being able to combine both esthetics into her designs.

Having been raised in the south, and spending her adult life in New York and California, Becky gravitates toward creating spaces that feel detailed and approachable; big in design but wrapped in warmth. She specializes in incorporating classic inherited pieces with new and youthful style, marrying the client’s views and needs with her design vision. Becky’s room at Southern Living Showcase went viral, and with good reason: her work is flawless.

Becky is currently working on projects all over the United States; from renovations in San Francisco, CA and Palm Beach, FL to ground up construction around Los Angeles and Charlotte. We sat down with her to chat about all things design, and we loved every second of it!

Describe your style in three words or less:

Layered, feminine, southern.

What have been the three biggest influences on your aesthetic in your life:

Travel, growing up in the south, living my adult life in New York City and Los Angeles, and Mark D. Sikes.

How did you start your company, and what is your favorite thing about what you do:

I started my company after working in the industry for 10 years. I had enough people asking me for help that I finally made the leap. My favorite thing about what I do is getting to know all my clients personally and being able to create pretty and welcoming spaces for them and their families

Do you have a mentor in your career, and if so, how have they helped to shape your trajectory:

I worked under Mark D. Sikes for many years and he absolutely shaped my career. He taught me so much about running a business, setting goals, marketing, searching for what’s next, and of course BEAUTIFUL interiors.

What does your home say about you:

I have lived in a million different places. I collect things as I go, but also live with very little. I’m always on the go, but love having a home base, so I have a few special pieces that always travel with me. I love entertaining having friends over. I have a dog, and enjoy the indoor outdoor living Los Angeles provides, so the windows and doors are always open—nothing is ever too perfect or precious.

Where do you find inspiration:

My peers, art, travel, and watching the way people live in their homes.

Who are your style icons:

Mario Buatta, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Lee Radizwell,

What are your key ingredients for entertaining:

A good play list, a stocked bar, nibbles to eat, shoes off and making your guest feel comfortable.

Do you collect anything:

Books, boxes, monogrammed linens—I’ll pick up a set of old cocktail napkins with an R or B wherever I go!

Favorite Instagram accounts to follow for inspiration:

@cafedesignblog, @theglampad, @moimoibcn

What design “rule” do you always follow, and which is made to be broken:

I think proportion and scale is a rule that always needs to be followed. Rules to break are matching colors and tones exactly, and matching furniture arm styles—it looks too corporate!

What are you working on right now:

I have a few ground up projects in LA as well as Palm Beach and Charlotte. A previous client of mine just bought a Lake House in Kansas that I’m excited to start!

Wardrobe staples:

Frame or Mother Denim, Chanel flats, white or gray tee from Alex Mill.

Best interior advice you ever received:

Everything is fixable.

Best career advice you ever received:

The moment you’ve stopped learning is the moment it’s time to move on.

Types of home purchases you invest in, and save on:

Spend on patterned or antique fabrics, save on linens. Spend on well made upholstery, save on sisal rugs.

Your greatest extravagance:

$5 coffees after my morning runs, and fresh flowers for the week. I really should say the amount I spend on myrtle topiaries because I cant keep them alive—ha!

Favorite places to shop for home:

Land of Belle, Nickey Kehoe, Matilda Goad, Cutter Brooks.

Most prized possession and why:

My dog! Maybe that’s not a possession—I’ll say my grandmothers wedding ring.

Your interiors motto:

Make sure you have something old in every room.

Your life motto:

I am not what I have, but what I’m able to give.

Advice for someone looking to define their own interior style:

Look for the common thing you love in all rooms, restaurants, magazines, etc. Is it a color? Trims? Someone’s ability to bring the outdoors in? Not modern, but architectural?
